Acupuncture
What is acupuncture?
The term acupuncture derivest from two Latin words, “acus†(the needle) and “pungereâ€(to stick) and thus means “the sticking of the needle.†This ancient healing method from China, which has been practiced for hundreds of years, is being more and more used in our culture. With body and ear acupuncture, fine and thin needles are inserted in certain parts of the body. The choice of places to insert the needles depends on the kind of problem and on the examination, which is made on the basis of traditional Chinese (TCM) medicine
How does acupuncture work?
Traditional Chinese medicine describes two complimentary opposites: Yin and Yang. These two forces normally maintain a harmonious balance. A disturbance of the balance is perceived by practitioners of Chinese medicine as an illness.
The use of acupuncture leads to an exchange of energy, and through the resulting harmonization, the body’s self-healing powers are set in motion
When is Acupuncture helpful? (indication)
In principle, acupuncture heals that which is disturbed, not that which is destroyed.
Acupuncture can be used with a variety of ailments, alone or in combination with other therapeutic procedures.
Headaches and pain in the spine and the joints, react well to this form of treatment.
How does the treatment proceed?
Usually a series of ten acupuncture treatments are prescribed, which, in general, should be terminated within 5 to 6 weeks. The needles remain in place for approximately 30 minutes.
What success does acupuncture have?
Various studies indicate the successes of acupuncture treatment, for example, the nation-wide GERAC-study (German Acupunture Trials). 85% of the acupuncture patients indicate their symptoms had improved after the treatment.
